Automotive and Telemedical Applications Now Benefit from an Off-the-Shelf Antenna that is Ground Plane Independent with 50% In-device Efficiency

San Diego, CA – Taoglas, the leading M2M antenna provider, today officially announced availability of its newest flexible circuit antenna, the FXP.14.  This ground-plane independent antenna saves on space, making it suitable for even smaller sized M2M devices in tracking, navigation, automotive and telemedical markets.

The FXP.14 hepta-band antenna delivers efficiency of over 50% on all cellular bands 850, 900, 1700, 1800, 1900, 2100 MHz and GPS for GSM, CDMA, DCS, PCS, WCDMA, UMTS, HSPA, GPRS and EDGE. It has been designed using innovative design techniques making this off-the-shelf antenna suitable for many devices that previously would have needed costly customization. It also features 1575 MHz for cellular or CDMA modules with AGPS where enhanced 911 is a requirement.

The FXP.14 covers all worldwide cellular markets and is compatible with the complete range of M2M modules particularly for modules that require a connector. The FXP.14 delivers higher performance, resulting in a better connection to the network, greater sensitivity particularly in low signal areas and higher data throughput rates.  It also helps lower device power consumption and enhances transmission.  Network approvals are easier to pass, and the probability of radiated spurious emissions lessened, allowing for a quicker and inexpensive route to market.-

“Most off-the-shelf antennas lead to poor performance and a very low likelihood that the product will get network approvals in the U.S. and worldwide,” said Dermot O’Shea, Director, Taoglas.  “Our own in-house testing on a random selection of M2M devices shows an average of only 15-20% efficiency. Taoglas has inherently changed the way off-the-shelf antennas are designed.  We design, build and characterize antennas in devices similar to the ones that customers are using today, to ensure they work in the field. This means customers can buy an off-the-shelf antenna and benefit from the high efficiency and performance they expect.”

The FXP.14 has many advantages over existing antennas in the market. It does not take up board space. By using the same technique as in most high-end mobile phones the antenna is placed directly on the underside of the plastic housing of the device using the highest grade 3M adhesive in the market today. The flexible substrate is conformable to the curves of the housing and extremely low profile, only 0.1mm in depth. The FXP.14 is 70mm x 20mm in size and comes with cable and connector for ease of integration. It is available immediately.
